A QR code on your things should help a stranger return them — not tell that stranger who you are, where you live, or how to call you. Here's how itbelongsto.me is designed around that.
Eight things we do by default
Your contact details stay hidden
Finders get a message box. Your email and phone never appear unless you add them to your page yourself.
You choose how much of your name shows
Anonymous, first name only (the default), or full contact. Change it any time.
Kids' pages never show a name
The kid-safe Sticker layout always reads "This belongs to a student" — no setting can override it — and every message goes to the parent.
Messages are screened
Every finder message is checked before it reaches you. Spam, abuse, and suspicious messages are held back for review, and bots are rate-limited.
Location is approximate at most
Finders choose whether to share where they are. Your page only ever shows a city you typed — never an address.
Out of search engines by default
Pages are hidden from Google unless you switch search on. Kids' pages and anonymous pages can't be switched on.
Pause in one tap
Stop incoming messages without reprinting anything. Stickers show a calm "paused" page until you turn them back on.
We keep less, for less time
Visitor IPs are never stored — only a daily-rotating hash. Raw scan records are deleted after 90 days, and finder reply links expire after 90 days of inactivity.
Safety questions
Is it safe to put a QR code with my name on my stuff?
An itbelongsto.me code doesn't carry your name or number — it opens a page that shows only what you choose (a first name by default, or nothing). Contact happens through a relay, so a finder never learns your email or phone unless you share it.
Is it safe for my kids' things?
Use the kid-safe Sticker layout. It never displays a name, it can't be listed in search engines, and messages go to the parent who owns the account.
Can someone spam me through my sticker?
Messages are rate-limited and screened before they reach your inbox, and suspicious ones are held for review. If a sticker attracts unwanted messages, pause messages in one tap.
